They held a press conference at the Abdus Salam auditorium of the capital’s Press Club today, Friday, to introduce the panel and announce the election manifesto. This faction is led by Professor Harun Al Rashid. He is a presidential candidate. At the press conference, he said that those who endured various tortures during the past fascist era and risked their lives to solve any problem of the people are the candidates for this year’s DAB executive council elections (in the Harun-Shakil faction).

During the past dictatorship, numerous people were injured and killed in police firing. Harun Al Rashid mentioned that these pro-BNP doctors stand by those oppressed people.

Secretary General candidate Md. Zahirul Islam Shakil announced the election manifesto with short-term, medium-term and long-term plans at the press conference. He said that if they win the election, they will work to improve the country’s health system.

The short-term (one to three years) action plan of the Harun-Shakil party includes 14-point promises, including health and universal medical care for all, equality-based laws in the health sector, balanced employment policies for government doctors, transformation of MBBS, postgraduate and nursing education to international standards, timely expansion of the drug policy and ensuring affordable healthcare, reform of the private health sector and raising the age limit of doctors in government jobs from 32 to 34 years.

The medium-term (one to five years) action plan includes proposals to introduce health cards, automation of the health system, recruitment of doctors who have been deprived of jobs in the last 15 years, and ensuring corruption-free employment policies and merit-based promotions. The long-term (one to ten years) action plan of the Harun-Shakil faction includes restructuring the medical system and introducing health insurance.

In addition to the president and secretary general, the panel of this faction includes senior vice-president candidate Professor Md. Abul Kenan, treasurer candidate Md. Mehedi Hasan and senior joint secretary general candidate Professor Khalequzzaman Dipu.

The press conference moderated by Md. Mehedi Hasan was also attended by the convener of the Harun-Shakil faction’s election management committee, Mosaddek Hossain, member secretary Sirajul Islam and former senior vice-president of DAB MA Selim.

The center for the DAB executive council election has been set at Will’s Little Flower School and College in Kakrail. Voting will be held tomorrow, Saturday, from 1 pm to 3 pm.
